CHARLOTTE, NC - Brunswick Community Hospital, along with other Novant Health facilities, will become tobacco-free in 2007. Patients, visitors, employees, physicians and volunteers will no longer be permitted to smoke inside or outside of the facility. Brunswick Community Hospital is targeting April 2 for launching their smoke and tobacco-free campuses.

The President's Award, for commitment to service excellence for patients, physicians and employees, is the highest recognition presented by Professional Research Consultants (PRC), a nationally known healthcare research company. Each year PRC presents the President's Award to only one healthcare organization in the nation.

CHARLOTTE / WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Novant Health, a North Carolina based not-for-profit health system, posted $115 million in net income in 2005, almost equaling 2004's net income of $116 million.

Novant Health announced the appointment of Denise Mihal as the new president of Brunswick Community Hospital (BCH). She officially began her new duties on March 1st and has been working behind the scenes for the past month during the hospital's transition to joining Novant Health.

Novant Health ranks eighth among the Top 100 integrated healthcare networks in the United States, according to Verispan, a research firm that evaluates healthcare systems. The ninth annual survey was recently released in the national publication, Modern Healthcare. Novant improved 66 positions in the Top 100 listing, from 74th in 2005 to 8th in 2006.
